Another week is down and I've still not bought anything from my banned list, hooray!
I have to admit that Week 3 has been harder to manage than the previous two weeks. The main reason is because I got paid last Friday which usually results in a couple of completely unnecessary 'treats' being bought.
But no, I didn't give in to the lure of the shops, as much as I wanted to! Winning a lovely blog giveaway last week certainly helped though!
Instead, I've paid off all of my outstanding bills that have recently come in (including a higher than expected gas bill - thanks winter), and for the first time in months I didn't need to pay them with my overdraft or credit card limit.
The main thing I've learnt so far is that I never realised how all of the 'little' things can really add up. A £3 morning takeaway coffee and a £3 sandwich meal deal for lunch every day works out at £30 per working week. Add to that a couple of beauty treats, magazines and newspapers and it can go upwards of £50 per week.
That's a lot of money to be spending on stuff you don't really need isn't it?

sounds like you're doing great. I have really cut down, but have had a few slip ups. My spending is still a lot lower than normal though which I'm pleased with :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you're doing well with reducing it, always a good step :)
DeleteYou are doing really well! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! :)
DeleteYou're doing so well Evelyn! I went to the cinema yesterday and accidentally went into Boots, I came out with one of the Rimmel Apocalips *oops* But I must be doing well as I still have quite a bit in the bank haha! x
ReplyDeleteOoo naughty! Good purchase though - I REALLY want one! x
DeleteYou have so much more willpower than me! I went into Boots last week for nail polish remover and came out with 3 soap and glory products and 2 nail polishes! Big fat fail! haha
ReplyDeleteKeep it up! :)
xx
I've been strictly avoiding the shops that's all! If I went into Boots I would exactly the same as you :D xxx
DeleteI must admit I've been finding it harder in week 2. I desperately wanted the WIMH Alpha-H goodies - especially the liquid gold - but I resisted! :) x
ReplyDeleteOh I saw that and wanted it too! So many tempting offers around at the mo! x
DeleteIt's amazing what a difference not buying all those little things can make isn't it. I've noticed I have alot more change left in my purse by the end of the week (it's usually empty!) and I rarely reach for my bank card now. I've started saving all my small change, it add's up really quickly then I either lodge it or use it towards cheap-ish things like cat food. lol

Yeah I always thought things like getting a lunch out when I'm at work would add up, but I never properly realised how much money I was saving until I started to do this. Scary! xx
DeleteMy H and I used to treat ourselves to coffee everyday from the coffee shop. At 3.00-4.00 a drink that's 2000.00 to almost 3000.00 a year! We now only drink drip coffee from home. It's not as "special" but when we think of the amount of money we save, we are happy .
ReplyDeleteThat's a HUGE amount of money you two are saving, no wonder you're happy. Well done! :)
DeleteI'm always buying coffees and sandwiches- things I don't need at all! I don't think I'd have the will power you do!

It's definitely getting harder, though I haven't minded too much taking my own drinks and sandwiches to work. Has been nice to have a change :) x
DeleteCongrats on doing so well so far! I agree with you, the small things really add up :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yep it really does! :)
DeleteYou're so right about the little things all adding up, you don't notice them and then all of a sudden it really creeps up on you!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work!!
Eleanor x
Thanks Eleanor! I know, you just don't realise it until you cut them out and add up all the money you've saved! x
DeleteGreat to see you are still doing well!
ReplyDeleteI am doing good too, which is a surprise even to myself.
I didnt include food in my ban but I am bringing in lunch from home some days and that is not only helping my wallet but my waistline too - as I am on a fitness mission at the moment! In fact, going to the gym is keeping me out of the shops!
Keep going! xx
Sounds like you're doing brilliantly too! Pats on the back all round :D xx
Deletewell done hun! you are doing so well. I had a slip up with payday this week but back on it now. x
ReplyDeleteGood to hear you're back on track :) x

ReplyDeleteWell done Evelyn. I am on a mission in February not buy any coffee/lunches out during the week as I've just totted up what it costs me each month and I think I need a lie down in a dark room!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good mission, good luck! As long you prepare your own lunches and drinks etc in advance it's pretty easy and you save LOADS!
